Understanding Insurance, Liability and Condition Records in Freight Movement

Cargo insurance and carrier liability are not the same thing. Carrier liability is limited by the terms of carriage, while cargo insurance covers the value of the goods according to the policy. Shippers should understand which applies before a loss occurs, not after.

The practical difference shows up in evidence. A claim is far easier to process when the condition of the cargo was recorded at each handover point, and when any discrepancy was noted at receipt rather than after a clean delivery document was signed.

We keep handling records, transport documents and communication history together per shipment so the relevant leg can be identified quickly when a question is raised.

Visual condition records are one of the areas included in our AI upgrade roadmap, intended to make this evidence consistent rather than dependent on who happened to take a photograph.
